Wheelie Cyprus

Responsible Travel Policy

Wheelie Cyprus prides itself on offering a personal service to outdoor lovers looking to discover Aphrodite's island of Cyprus using either two wheels or two legs.

Our extensive knowledge of the north western coastal and inland areas of the island enables us to offer unique self-guided cycling and walking itineraries using GPS units to make route finding easy. Discover the real Cyprus, far from the tourist resorts, where you can lose yourself in nature.

Economic responsibility

We use small family run hotels in the Polis area, small village tavernas and, where relevant, local transport firms for airport transfers.

We live and work in the area contributing full time to the local economies.

Day tours and holidays have carefully planned routes on trails "far from the madding crowds" bringing much-needed income to small village coffee shops and cafes.

We work closely with our local bike shop in Polis for mutual trade benefits.

Environmental responsibility

Details of tours offered are available in paper-free form only on our website. We do not produce any brochures. Bespoke mixed activity holidays can be arranged through extensive e-mail or Skype communication where necessary.

We use re-usable plastic containers for packed lunches on all day tours and encourage hotel owners to do the same for clients requesting a packed lunch. We provide all holiday clients with BPA free water bottles that they can refill during their holiday and then use when they return home, eliminating the need to purchase any water bottles.

Anything that can be recycled will be, for example punctured inner tubes are used as tree ties; old tyres are sent to a recycling centre.

We educate clients on a wide variety of conservation initiatives including saving water wherever possible, refraining from picking wild flowers, protecting migratory birds through the work of Birdlife Cyprus and helping to protect the baby turtles as they hatch every year. We also encourage them to dispose of all litter appropriately including non-biodegradable foodstuffs.

Social responsibility

We encourage travellers to support small village stores and bakeries that stock everything required including fresh produce as opposed to the big supermarkets, thereby helping small communities to survive.

We ask that any souvenirs are purchased locally rather than at the airport or larger chain stores.

We encourage clients to eat at family run village tavernas offering true Cypriot hospitality.
