Mountain Bike Hire.

To Hire - "procure the temporary use of a thing for an agreed payment". Concise Oxford Dictionary.

Coming Soon!

We have recently placed an order for new bicycles and these will be with us by June 2012. The bicycles are the Trek 6000, a 10 speed cross-country bike. For more details see the Our Bikes section below.

At Wheelie Cyprus we aim to provide quality mountain bikes for your enjoyment of the Cyprus trails. We do not provide childrens bikes or road bike.

We are currently upgrading our bikes. Coming soon we have a fleet of Trek 6000 series bikes to complement our Orange Gringos. The Gringo has been our premium bike for the last six years. We only intended to keep them for 2-3 years before renewing them. They have just been such good bikes - and so well suited to the cyprus trails - that we still have them. However, trends move on, 10 speed is in and disc brakes are the norm. We have therefore semi-retired the Gringos to a more recreational role and the Trek 6000's are on order. They will, we hope, arrive sometime in June.

Both bikes are well suited to the Cyprus trails. This is an island with a vast selection of cross-country style riding with plenty of climbing and descending. The descending is not downhill stuff - it's technical in places - but not in a big jumpy sort of way. If you are in-training then you will love some of the continuous climbing available here; 4 to 5 kilometres at a time - phew!

When you hire a bike from us, included in the hire is a helmet, a pair of riding gloves, a water bottle and spare inner tube. Each group of riders will be given pumps and a mini tool - just in case. If you are going to ride without a guide have a look at our page on the ride kit that you might want to take with you on your ride.

During the summer months it can be seriously hot and dusty out on the trails, you must keep hydrated. Although we provide a water bottle, you would be well advised to bring your own hydration pack if you have one, or at least a backpack in which to carry spare water.

As part of our mountain bike hire service and for your convenience we can deliver the bikes to your villa hotel or apartment and are happy to suggest some routes for you to ride. Go on, get out there and explore a different Cyprus. Enjoy!

Our Bikes

The Trek 6000

If you want a mountain bike for a hard days riding on the magnificent Cyprus tracks, single tracks and trails then we would recommend one of our Trek 6000's made by the Trek Bicycle Corporation.. These are our new bikes (Coming in June 2012, we hope!).

The Trek 6000 is classified as a cross country bike with - to quote the companies blurb - "tight, aggressive, precision-handling geometry derived from our top race-level hardtails". This is a 10 speed Bicycle with the following general specs:-

  • Rear Derailleur - Shimano Deore XT
  • Front Derailleur - Shimano Deore
  • Shifters - Shimano Deore
  • Fork - SR Suntour XCR RL 100mm coil spring with lockout and preload
  • Brakes - Shimano M446 Disc Brakes

    The Orange Gringo.

If you fancy a bit of a ride whilst you are in Cyprus, but at a more leisurely pace, then the Orange Gringo made by "Orange Mountain Bikes of England"will probably do you. Don't be fooled, this is a seriously good mountain bike which will cope with most of the trails in Cyprus - it is just a little less well equiped than the Trek.

The Gringo is a purpose built cross country trail bike. To quote the manufacturer "the Gringo lends itself to many off-road riding exploits, but where it excels is in its pure and unfussy usability". In short this is a bike which will be happy to ferry you to a local taverna or to blast around the Cyprus tracks with equal aplomb.

The Gringo is a 9 speed bicycle with the following general specs:-

  • Rear Derailleur - Shimano Deore XT
  • Front Derailleur - SRAM X3
  • Shifters - Shimano Deore
  • Fork - Manitou AXEL Comp, 120mm Coil spring.
  • Brakes - Avid Single Digit V-Brakes
